Althea 'Granny' Victoria Taylor Kinchen

Althea “Granny” Victoria Taylor Kinchen, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Denham Springs on September 1, 2023, at the age of 80. Althea was born June 3, 1943, to the late Shelby and Russia Wheat Taylor of Colyell. She was a graduate of French Settlement High School’s class of 1961, and that same year, Althea married the love of her life, James “Buck” Kinchen Jr. Althea was a long-time bus driver for the Livingston Parish School System. Retiring from there after 17 years, she dedicated the remainder of her years to community work. As an active member of Life Church in Walker, Althea never stopped serving others, cooking, driving, cleaning, and being an encourager. She was there for anyone in need. Her compassion reached almost every corner of the world through her passion for mission work, with one of her favorite events of the year being Life Church’s Red Carpet Missions Weekend. She also enjoyed keeping her grandkids and great-grandkids. Althea is survived by her children, James Travis Kinchen (Angela), Angelia Kinchen Harriman (Van), Tanya Penney Wright (Brannon); her grandchildren, Vanna Harriman Jarrell (Jason), Justin Thurmond, Chase Charrier (Michelle), Olivia Harriman Myers (Allen), Luke Kinchen and his fiancé Lyla, Trent Kinchen (Bailee), and Promise Kinchen; her Great Grandchildren: Harper Jarrell, Colton Myers, Haidyen Jarrell, Amelia Myers, Hallie Jarrell, Gracelynn Charrier, Elaine Kinchen, Benton Myers, Noah Charrier; and her siblings; Hulon Taylor, Jack Taylor, Hollis Taylor, Darrell Douglas “DD” Taylor, Valdon “Val” Taylor, William “W.C.” Clarkston Taylor, and Dwana Taylor McKnight. She is preceded in death by her parents Shelby and Russia Wheat Taylor; and brother, Delmas Taylor. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at First Pentecostal Church of Denham Springs 1020 S. Range Ave., Denham Springs, LA 70726 on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 12:00 PM. Services will be conducted by Pastor Val Taylor and Pastor Ted David Kinchen. Pallbearers will be Chase Charrier, Luke Kinchen, Trent Kinchen, Justin Thurmond, Jason Jarrell, and Allen Myers. Burial will follow in Colyell Community Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Life Church Missions. Arrangements have been entrusted to McLin Funeral Home.
