David P. "Limping Turtle" Smth

April 10, 1949 - April 2, 2022

Mr. David Smith died unexpectedly yet peacefully in Denham Springs, Louisiana on April 2, 2022, at the age of 72. He is preceded in death by his mother June Rose Smith, his father George L. Smith, his brother George L. Smith, Jr, and his sister Georgianna “Yana” Smith. He is survived by his sisters Georgia “Lee” Royer and Debra Smith. He is also survived by his son David G. Smith and daughters Gracie Devine “Rene LaRose,” Ashley Smith “Johnny Claiborne,” Barbara J. Smith, and his granddaughters Destiney, Rosie, Charley Devine and his grandsons Johnny Jr., Joseph, Raiden, Nathan Claiborne and cousins by the dozens! He was born on April 10, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana to George and June Smith. He began working as a boat captain. In 1983 he broke his neck and made a promise that if he ever walked again, he would make people laugh. He then had his greatest accomplishments by having his children. He volunteered at Arabi Elementary, and National and State parks along the Gulf Coast. He was also one of the founding members of The Battle of New Orleans Reenactment. He also played Santa for over 30 years, but nothing made him prouder than his grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on April 11, 2022, from 10:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 1:00 pm, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2621 Colonial Blvd, Violet, LA 70092. Arrangements have been entrusted to McLin & Manley Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Online condolences may be left at www.mclinfuneralhome.com.
