Thomas 'Foots' Joseph LaPorte Sr

Thomas Joseph LaPorte, Sr. known by family and friends as “Foots” passed away, Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 12:03 a.m., at his home in Walker, Louisiana. He was a native of Baton Rouge and long-time resident of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana. Foots was born on November 16, 1938, to Joseph and Maggie Spitale LaPorte, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Foots served in the Army National Guard. He retired from East Baton Rouge City Parish Government as a construction inspector. After retirement, he was a medical transportation driver for Eye Care Surgery Center for several years. His family will always cherish his wittiness, care, love and attention. He loved family vacations, outings and gatherings. He enjoyed watching and attending sporting events with his son, friends, and brothers-in-law, mainly LSU football and basketball. He and his son attended several pro-wrestling matches during early fatherhood. Serving the Lord our Savior, Foots was a deacon of Lanier Baptist Church and Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, and was involved in men’s and youth ministries. He enjoyed fellowship and worship with his brothers and sisters in Christ until he was physically unable to attend Sunday School and worship services. He continued to worship and loved listening to his favorite hymns and gospel songs online, thanks to today’s technology. Foots is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Linda Vickers LaPorte; their son, Thomas J. LaPorte, Jr. (Tanya); granddaughter, Lillian LaPorte; his sisters, Carolyn Guitreau, and Barbara Loupe; sister-in-law, Patricia Moore; a dear niece, Laura Bienvenue; one great niece, Kelli Whittington; and many other nieces and nephews. Foots is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jackie LaPorte Miller; four brothers-in-law, Aubrey Guitreau, Emile Loupe, Jr., Vic Vickers, and Alan Vickers; and sister-in-law, Sandra Gordon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 9:30 AM until the funeral service begins at 12:00 PM, conducted by Pastor Oren Conner. Interment will immediately follow in Greenwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 19421 Greenwell Springs Rd., Greenwell Springs, LA 70739. Pallbearers will be Thomas LaPorte, Jr, Tony Guitreau, Emile, III, and Rodney Loupe, Rodger Moore, and D’Laney Thomas. Dale Bunnell will be an honorary pallbearer.
