Shirley Marie R. Bourgeois - Nickens

Shirley R. Bourgeois Nickens, a resident of St. Amant, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, April 10, 2023, at the age of 87, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. She had a passion for sewing and worked as a seamstress at the pants factory, Neese Industry, she worked as a prison guard and seamstress within the prison, and eventually started her own industrial sewing business which operated for 14 years, after this, she worked for Walmart, and then continued working with Carlton Savoy making hunting vests. Shirley was married to her first husband Rene Bourgeois in 1950 until his death in 2008. She then married the love of her life Johnny Nickens, until his death in 2021. Shirley is survived by her children, Rene and Kim Bourgeois, Sherry “Tutti” and Terry Templet, Blaine and Becky Bourgeois, Daphne and Chris Lambert, Bryant Bourgeois, Rachel and Shannon Reynolds; stepchildren, Donna and Jerry Lambert, Jacklyn N. Stevens, Kathy N. Lear, and Johnny P. Nickens; brother, Charles Richardson; as well as numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones. Shirley is preceded in death by her first husband, Rene Bourgeois; second husband, Johnny Nickens; sons, Clifford Bourgeois and Anthony Bourgeois; parents, Clyde and Leanna Savoy Richardson; sister, Lottie R. Bourgeois; brother, Ronald Richardson; and five stepchildren, Debra N. Blouin, Sandra N. Sheppard, Rhonda N. Coppenbarger, Chantel N. Yates, and Acklyn Nickens. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at New River United Methodist Church 46040 Louisiana Highway 22, St. Amant, LA 70774, Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, visitation will resume Friday, April 14, 2023, from 9:00 AM until services begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in New River Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Russ Clunan will officiate services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Louisiana United Methodist Children's Home of Southeast Louisiana.
