Leolean James 'LJ' Methvien

Leolean James "LJ" Methvien of Holden, Louisiana passed away at his home on January 20, 2024, at the age of 85. He was born on April 5, 1938, in Holden, Louisiana, the son of Ted Ernest Methvien and "Mattie" Amanda Hoyt Methvien. “LJ” is survived by his daughter Mandy Cowart (Ronnie), and sons Aaron Methvien, James Methvien (Stephanie), Roy Methvien (Brenda); Brothers Charles Methvien and Wayne Methvien (Sharon); Sisters Grace Eldridge, Plummie Gauthreaux (Joe), Gloria Schilling, Maggie Watts, Velma White, Georgie Baxter (George), and Ouida Nugent; seven Grandchildren, nine Great Grandchildren, and one Great Great Grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 54 years, Cora Ann McCarroll Methvien, and a brother, Little Ernest Methvien. From 1955 to 1966, “LJ” served in the United States Air Force, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Army where he served in various positions in each branch of service and earned several medals and commendations. While in the military, he was asked to participate in lightweight boxing, but got moved to middleweight boxing because they soon found out that a small country boy had muscles and could outbox any lightweight boxer, they put against him! He was very versatile and after serving his time in the military, “LJ” worked at various occupations to provide for his family. He was a mechanic, a farmer, and a heavy equipment operator, having worked out of the Local 406 Operating Engineers. Leolean loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service in Hickory Branch Family Cemetery at 28700 L.J. Methvien Rd. Holden, LA 70744 on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM conducted by Pastor Jerry Hughes and Eulogy by Chucky Methvien, followed by US Military Honors. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Rebecca Grace, Cora Williams, and Wayne Methvien for giving him so much love in his last days; and we would like to thank his nurse Trenice Coleman, and chaplain Edith “Edie” Tranchina for his last joy ride.
