Karen Bacon Raney

Karen Bacon Raney (Mi MI) left this earth and entered Heaven on January 7th, 2023. Karen was born at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Ms. on July 9th, 1952. She left us at the early age of 70. God called her home, where she longed to be. Karen was the oldest of 4 children. She is survived by her husband, Sam Raney, with 48 wonderful years of marriage. She is also survived by her mother, Ruby Bacon, sister Brenda Brown, sister Melanie Bacon and brother Roger Bacon. She was preceded in death by her father, Lurry Bacon. She is also survived by her son, Neill Raney and wife Kelly, with three boys, Preston, Pierson, and Paxton. Karen had a stepdaughter, Sheryl Schafer and her husband Mark, five other grandchildren and three great-grandsons. Amanda Hardy and her husband Hunter and their son, Hudson; Morgan Strawderman and her two sons, Lukas and Levi; Nathan Strawderman; Adam Strawderman and his wife, Eugenie; and Brianna Schafer. She loved and adored all of them as they did her. Karen graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1970. She worked at Pathology Group of Louisiana and loved working with her flowers in the yard. She also loved playing with the grandchildren and could never pass a baby in the store or at church without talking to the child and letting them know she loved them. She was a person who loved to hug. I want to thank my brother Jerry and his wife Jan for always being there for us; her sister Brenda and mother Ruby for all that they did and many neighbors and friends as well as the sweet members of Greenwell Springs Baptist Church. I want to thank Pinnacle Health and all the wonderful people who work for them. Also, The Crossing Hospice, where she was taken care of with love. Karen had Alzheimer’s disease for 4 years and I could not have made it without the help of so many people. Karen’s mind is now clear, and she is finally at peace with our Lord and Savior. Everyone who knew Karen loved her and she loved and prayed for all of them. During our marriage, we traveled extensively. We visited Israel, Italy, Alaska, Canada, and all of the states. We both loved the LSU Baseball team and had season tickets for over 36 years. We followed the team to all the SEC Schools and Omaha. Karen will be laid to rest in the cemetery at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church. The wake will be from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, January 9, 2023, with the funeral starting at noon on Tuesday. The church will open at 11:00. Pastor Brian Robertson will lead the service. The Pall Bearers will be Mark Schafer, Neill Raney, Preston Raney, Adam Strawderman, Nate Strawderman, and Jerry Raney. I will miss my sweet wife but only for a while. When God calls me home we will be together again forever. Arrangements have been entrusted to McLin Funeral Home.
