Berta Elizabeth Gay

Berta Elizabeth Lovett Gay, a native of Walker, age 81, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Bert was a retired Livingston Parish School Board bus driver of more than 40 years. Coming from a large family, she enjoyed spending time with her siblings and cousins playing cards, dominoes, and even the occasional bit of Nintendo. Bert was well known for her baking skills, never failing to bring something delicious to any gathering. In particular, she is fondly remembered for baking the best banana nut bread and coconut cake you’ve ever tasted! Bert also had a passion for bowling with her teams and was also heavily involved in Louisiana Youth Bowling. She was a regular fixture for decades at Circle Bowl in Baton Rouge. Bert is survived by children, Linda Cambre, Brenda (Michael) Adams, and Steve Gay; grandchildren, Kasey Santanen, Christopher Corcoran, Elizabeth (Blake) Brouillette, Matthew Adams, and Michael Cambre; great-granddaughters, Ella and Eva Brouillette; siblings, Glenda Dubroc and Boyce (Jai) Lovett; in-laws, Gloria Artus, Gary Corbitt, and Cheryl Lovett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Billy Gay, Sr.; children, Jerri Tomlinson, Billy Gay, Jr., and Frankie Corcoran; grandson, Alexander Corcoran; her parents, Leon and Wilma Lovett; siblings, Peggy Sibley, Gwen Rawls, Ronnie Lovett, Victor Lovett, and Susan Corbitt; and in-laws, Floyd and Hazel Gay, and Robert Artus. Special thanks to Linda Cambre for the long-term care she provided our mom. Linda was the primary caregiver for the last 4 years. Most children aren’t able to stay home with their ailing parents, but Linda spent every day with mom to make sure she could live out her last years at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bert’s visitation Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 9:00 AM until her memorial service begins at 11:00 AM, conducted by Pastor Clint Mitchell.
